A honeycomb ceiling for a Pasadena home

When I saw the inspiration picture of a Moorish style beam ceiling, I knew the client was going to want something very special for their home. The challenge was to give them something that would apply the feel of an ornate ceiling without being both out of scale and out of character for the rest of their home.

Frankly I love projects like this because they are both challenging and interesting and the customers have a passion for their home and I deeply enjoyed being part of something so personal and important to them.

The layout process for this geometric ceiling began by taking laser measurements of the ceiling then laying out and designing the ceiling in architectural software. Before settling on the specific moldings a 3-D laser was used to lay out the ceiling lines. The appropriate crown molding for the room was then installed using traditional coped corners as we always do, and only then could appropriate panel molding be chosen for the ceiling.

Because there are so many variables including shadow ceiling heights the size of the various shapes, it was only after installing a third of the ceiling work that we agreed that the panel molding initially chosen was not large enough and the ceiling was re-installed using a molding that was significantly larger.

The ceiling is currently in the process of being painted so stay tuned for the finished photos but here is a photo from the installation phase.
